I don’t know about you, but I’m skeptical about most of the things I buy so a product has to prove it is worth the money I spent on it. As promised, here’s my review on the Viridian X5L.
Note: This is just my review so if you’re looking to get your hands on the Viridian X5L Green Laser Sight right now Click here for the best price.
Let me start off by saying that I bought the Viridian X5L for my Glock C17 9mm. I have other handguns and I have other laser sights. But this is the first green laser sight I’ve owned. After testing my brother-in-laws Viridian X5L Gen1, I decided to buy the X5L Gen2.
The X5L Gen1 was designed with functionality in mind, but with the technology at hand the size was a bit bulky.
As you can see with the X5L Gen2, Viridian made it more compact and leaner and at the same time beefing up the functionality.
So here’s my list of the good, the bad and the ugly on the Viridian X5L Green Laser Sight:
- The craftsmanship and design is first rate. The thing I noticed out of the box was the light-weight but solid design which wasn’t surprising when you consider that it’s made out of “6061 Aircraft Grade Aluminum” and Zytel® polymer. It’s a universal fit (except for compacts) laser sight and is designed to fit most railed guns. It fits my Glock 17 like it was made for it. Laser Aiming Systems does have a “fit chart” on their site so be sure to check that out.
- I was impressed at the functionality of this model. There are plenty of settings to choose from and it ‘remembers’ the settings the next time I use it. With the bright green laser and the nearly blinding LED light, that has a constant or strobe setting, you’ll be able to light up any target. It lights up a whole room at night, and overall makes me feel confident about defending my family without taking my hands off the gun trying to grab my flashlight or other light source. I also like the auto-off function as well, just in case I leave it on.
- At the range the strobe tactical light was a bit distracting to others, so just be aware of that. The laser has a constant beam mode and three pulse modes for any given situation. But even after 30 straight minutes of use it was still cool to the touch.
UPDATE – Viridian now equips all of their green laser sights with ECR (Enhanced Combat Readiness) and makes a tactical holster that automatically turns the laser on the moment you draw your gun.
This product did everything I expected it to do and more. The only improvement I found that could be made was the size of the buttons. That may be a little nitpicking since it doesn’t affect the overall performance, but it wouldn’t be an honest review if I left it out. So with all that being said – for the price vs. function and power, you would be hard-pressed to find an equal. I definitely recommend the Viridian X5L Green Laser Sight.
